Arizona is a mining state. The names Clifton, Globe, Jerome, Morenci and others have been associated with mining since the territorial days. Tombstone grew from a silver strike.
After putting it off too long, a friend and I decided to make the trip from the Mormon-founded community of Taylor down the Coronado Trail (a.k.a. The Alpine-Clifton Highway, a.k.a. SR-191) to Clifton and Morenci. Here is some of what we saw.
